Frequently asked questions.
Q: What happens if only one or two people book into a class?
A: Unlike many larger providers, we don’t cancel classes just because numbers are low. If you’re booked in, your course is guaranteed to run – even if you’re the only student. The only time we’d need to reschedule is in a genuine emergency (for example trainer illness or extreme weather), and we’ll contact you promptly to arrange a new time that works for you.
What happens if I arrive late or do not attend my course?
Please arrive 15 minutes before your course starts so we can complete registration, check pre-course requirements, and begin on time.
First aid courses include required practical skills, safety information and assessment activities. If you arrive late, you may miss an essential part of the course and we may not be able to include you in the class.
If you arrive up to 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, you may be turned away and will need to contact us to discuss whether a suitable alternative date is available.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, or you do not attend at all, this will be treated as a no-show. No-shows are not eligible for a refund or free rebooking.
Please let us know as early as possible if you cannot attend. We ask for at least two days’ notice where possible, as our small classes often fill up and other students may be turned away when no places are available. When someone does not attend without notice, that place cannot usually be offered to another student.
What happens in the unlikely event I need a refund?
Please refer to Allens' refund policy. We try to transfer to another date that suits you. If all else fails, we offer a full refund (less a small administrative fee outside of our control) through our finance booking provider, Stripe.
Where do I find your address, and how do I get there?
That is so easy for our home-based public courses in Crace. Just click here on our 'How to Get to Crace'page and scroll down to find directions by Car or by Bus (bus number 23).
At what times do you start the first aid courses?
Our public courses for Canberra first aid locations at our home business in Crace, Gungahlin generally start at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, or 3:00 PM. You can check exact availability by clicking through to our external booking calendar. We also offer private bookings outside these times, usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays, and we’re happy to travel to your location for your convenience. If you’d like to arrange a private session, please get in touch — we’d be glad to help!
What should I bring to my first aid or CPR course?
Please bring a smartphone/tablet/laptop; photo ID; wear comfortable clothing; and, if possible, bring a water bottle and a smile! We provide all necessary training equipment, including manikins and first aid supplies. If you're completing the online theory first, don’t forget to complete it before attending the practical sessions.
How do I get my first aid certificate?
Once you've completed both your online learning (if applicable) and the face-to-face assessment, your certificate will be available to download as many times as you need, so you can send it to your business or, better yet, frame it at home.
When should I arrive before a first aid course?
We recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled course start time to allow time for sign-in and a friendly welcome. Our public classes generally begin at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., or 3:00 p.m. (please check your booking confirmation). Arriving early helps us start on time and ensures you get the most out of your session. We also go through the necessary mentions about restroom facilities and evacuation procedures, and answer any questions from any of the pre-course online learning
Is small‑class training still nationally recognised?
Yes—recognition depends on the RTO and assessment standards, not class size.
I’m nervous. Will I be put on the spot?
In small‑class settings, trainers can pace assessment, repeat practice and reduce pressure.
Do I need HLTAID011 or just CPR (HLTAID009)?
CPR only if your workplace requires annual CPR; HLTAID011 covers broader first aid and is common across childcare, fitness and community roles.
How long does the course take?
Most Gungahlia First Aid courses include simple online pre-course learning followed by a friendly, hands-on practical session.
For CPR, allow about one hour to complete the online videos and easy self-paced questions before the course starts. The face-to-face practical session is usually less than one hour, especially in our small-class format.
For Provide First Aid, allow about two hours for the online pre-course learning, followed by approximately two hours of face-to-face practical training and assessment.
Our small classes give you plenty of support, practice time, and the confidence to use your skills in a real emergency.
Do you ever cancel classes? Or is there a minimum number of students to run a class?
Unlike other providers in Canberra, we never cancel a class, even if there is only one attendee. We call this a bonus platinum class, where you can ask as many questions as you want. If this does happen, we often contact you to see if it suits you to arrive a little earlier if you wish. All part of our value-add training to help you help others
