Low Voltage Rescue (UETDRMP018) in Canberra: What You Need to Know

Working on switchboards or around live electrical gear in the ACT? Low Voltage Rescue (UETDRMP018) is the nationally recognised unit that builds the skills and confidence to respond fast and safely if something goes wrong. It’s the current LVR unit that superseded UETDRMP007, aligning content with today’s electricity supply industry practices.

What UETDRMP018 covers (and why it replaced UETDRMP007)

UETDRMP018 trains you to prepare for, carry out and complete a rescue from a live low voltage panel, including scene safety, isolation, LVR kit checks, rescue techniques and post-incident actions. It reflects up-to-date industry requirements; UETDRMP018 is now the current unit listed on training.gov.au (Australia’s official register).

Who needs LVR in the ACT?

LVR is commonly required for electricians, apprentices, safety observers and workers who may be exposed to LV switchboards or panels. Employers in ACT should manage electrical risk in line with the Model Code of Practice: Managing electrical risks in the workplace—LVR training supports that risk-management approach. (Always check your PCBU’s procedures and any network/operator policy.)

CPR + LVR: what’s commonly required

Because LVR rescues frequently involve immediate life support, CPR (HLTAID009) is often delivered with—or required before—LVR by many providers. If your CPR is current, you can usually complete LVR on its own; otherwise, book the CPR + LVR combo. (Prerequisites vary by provider; check the booking page.)

Course format, duration, assessment & what to bring

Expect blended learning (short theory + hands-on practical), a practical rescue assessment, and quick feedback. Wear enclosed footwear and work-ready clothing; if you have a workplace LVR kit, bring it so you can practise on familiar gear.

How often should you refresh?

The Model Code emphasises risk-based training and competence. Many employers mandate annual refreshers for LVR and CPR to align with internal procedures and industry norms—but confirm your workplace or regulator requirements.
